Primal Collection Jewelry

Unusual collection of mixed metal and primitive elements to stimulate the imagination of the viewer. Asymmetrical design has always been appealing to me, and now we're seeing a literal explosion of asymmetry in jewelry. I love it!!! I love it enough to believe it was the right time for a collection of primitive, and mostly asymmetrical pieces in this collection called "Primal". Creating asymmetrical jewelry designs is challenging. People have a tendency to think that shapes are just carelessly thrown together, they tend to think the same about seemingly random color mixes with stones or glass. There is nothing easy or careless about this process, and in fact it is more difficult to achieve success with so called random stones, or indeed the shapes and arrangements that make up asymmetrical jewelry designs. The key element for success is balance, and this does not mean a matching element of each side, but instead using size, color and position (all 3 elements) to result in a pleasing composition.

Every bead you select must contribute to the design in a meaningful way; there is not room for frivolous add ons at all as they will throw off the balance you are trying to accomplish. This process requires careful consideration of each element and usually takes much more time to develop than a standard design. BUT, and it's a big one, asymmetrical designs are so much more fun to do. Think of it as a puzzle, but it is a puzzle with more than one solution. Many artists who specialize in this form of design have several pieces in progress at any given time, all laid out on a table in separate groupings so that they can add elements to any of the designs as they wish rather than doing one design from start to finish and then moving to the next one.

I've been doing bracelets and necklaces with asymmetry for some time now. Usually I will have one or two available in my shops, but no more than a couple because they didn't seem to have enough popular appeal. That's why I'm so thrilled to see that this concept in now catching on with buyers. So those of us with an affection for asymmetry, and the quirky imagination or rebellious nature that causes us to not always color within the lines, can have some fun and share this way of thinking to more and more people who love jewelry and fashion.
